7 Easy Ways Your Business Can Go Green!

How can my business protect the environment

The looming threat of climate change has started a movement of going green. Many businesses are adopting environment-friendly ways to save cost, avail tax credits, and help save the planet.

Today, we are going to list 7 simple & easy ways you can adopt to make any business go green.

1. Go Paperless

Technology has enabled us to go paperless now! This is the high time we start using it.

93% paper comes from trees, and 50% of business waste consists of paper. Cutting down paper use in offices is the first step to go green.

You should-

  • Recycle papers (including shredded ones)
  • Print on both sides of papers
  • Go for paperless solutions for billing and accounting
  • Use recycled paper
  • Take prints only when it’s absolutely necessary

2. Conserve Electricity

An average business consumes 15,000 and 25,000 kWh of energy each year. Power plants are one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions, so conserving electricity is crucial to go green.

  • Go for LED bulbs (can save 20% – 50% in bills)
  • Turn off lights and equipment when not in use (including power strips)
  • Get an energy audit and increase energy efficiency
  • Make the most of natural lighting
  • Use energy-efficient equipment

3. Eliminate Plastic

We have dumped about 22 billion plastic bottles in landfills and oceans till now. Plastic use in offices is one of the biggest contributors to plastic waste. You can cut down plastic use in your organization by-

  • Installing a water filter and using refillable bottles
  • Going for plastic alternatives (plates, stationery, bags)

4. Recycle and Reuse Electronics

Instead of throwing away laptop batteries, go for recycling. You can also donate old computers, printers, monitors, and other peripherals to proper recycling agencies. Also, try to reuse as many accessories as you can. You should pay special attention to the recycling of ink cartridges. Most companies send a return package for used ink cartridges so that they can be safely recycled.

5. Cut Down Travel

Road transport contributes to 74% of all carbon emissions.

Luckily, you don’t always need to travel to hold meetings with your clients. You can use technologies like video conferencing to conduct face-to-face virtual meetings. It does not only saves time and money but also helps you participate in environmental protection initiatives.

6. Seek Green Vendors

Many vendors adopt eco-friendly practices and operations in a bid to help the environment. If possible, try to look for and create relationships with green vendors. That way, you can be sure you are not contributing to global warming and source your resources from an environment-friendly supply chain.

7. Promote Green Culture

More than anything, you need to build up a green culture in your organization. Encourage employees to adopt greener ways and involve them in your initiatives. Post rules and guidelines on the board and email a copy to each employee. It’s not difficult to become environment-friendly when your whole company has a matching mindset.
